The Electoral commission of Uganda
, a government body which is responsible for conducting
fair elections in Uganda had felt the need to computerize
the whole election process in order to prevent mal practices,
duplicate votes etc. Critical consideration was given
to a Digital Photographic Electoral Register. Electoral
commission of Uganda needed a solution that could safely
store information about 21 million people which is the
1999 estimated population of Uganda . Secure storage
of the generated high resolution graphic images was
key to the success of implementing a Digital Register.
Clearly Compaq SAN was the most preferred solution,
since the most important factor for Electoral Commission
was storage management. It needed a storage pool that
can expand to their needs.
2 Compaq Proliant DL380s (1st cluster on Windows 2000)
and 2 DL580s (2nd Cluster on windows 2000), both the cluster
accessing common storage using MA8000, offering a no single
point of failure (NPOF) with maximum uptime and high speed
access to database using Fibre Channel technology. Since
archiving of these data was of prime importance a fully
automated backup solution with Computer Associates ARC
serve 2000 and Compaq TL 891 DLT tape library including
expansion unit capable of backing up data of maximum 1.9
terabyte.
