Background:
Celtel Uganda is a leading Mobile company in Uganda , company critical applications like the Billing software on SQL database, Switch monitoring software on SQL database, Microsoft exchange 2003 server, file server and database are running on the individual servers. In addition backing up the huge database and restoration is the real challenge for the celtel Uganda . Celtel Uganda decided to integrate all the critical application databases to centralized storage appliances to guarantee the data availability and recovery.
Solution:
The Computer Point Uganda Ltd implemented the SAN storage solution for Celtel Uganda, consists of NetApp Filer 3020 with 4TB Storage capacity can be scalable up to 50TB . All the critical application servers accessing database located in SAN through a cheaper and reliable iSCSI protocol from centralized NetApp SAN Storage.
In addition with storage consolidation also NetApp preparatory application suites Snap manager for exchange (SME), Single mail Box Recovery (SMBR), SQL Snap Manger for SQL and Snap Drive software's can deliver the quick and easy restoration of database and file from snap shots.
Snap manager for exchange leverages the industry-leading capabilities of NetApp's Snapshot technology to execute full backups and restores in just seconds. This technology allows backups are executed without the need to bring Exchange databases/mailboxes offline, and is done without any significant performance degradation. Snapshot technology also allows organizations to efficiently store 250+ copies of the data, allowing for much more granular restores based on specific points in time. Single Mail Box Recovery (SMBR) integrates with both NetApp and third-party technology to allow administrators quickly and accurately retrieve individual mailboxes, email messages, and even attachments using a powerful set of advanced search criteria.
Snap Manager for SQL (SMS) automates and simplifies the complex, manual and time-consuming processes associated with the backup, restore, and recovery of SQL Server databases. It is integrated with Microsoft technology across both iSCSI and Fibre Channel protocols. This technology allows backups are executed without the need to bring Exchange databases/mailboxes offline, and is done without any significant performance degradation. Snapshot technology also allows organizations to efficiently store 250+ copies of the data, allowing for much more granular restores based on specific points in time.
